Sturgis House Runner Pattern

Sturgis House Runner Pattern
Description

Always interested in interpreting design elements from architecture into quilt designs, I was captured by the inlaid floor designs at Sturgis House in East Liverpool, Ohio.

The old Victorian house had been a funeral home with the colorful history of being the place where mortuary services were rendered to Pretty Boy Floyd. His body was embalmed and placed on display before being sent to Oklahoma for burial. When we visited, the house was being operated as a Bed and Breakfast Inn. It is now again a funeral home operated by Dawson’s.

The second floor bedroom where we stayed had an elaborate inlaid wood border all around, with “quilteresque” corner blocks. This pattern replicates the ribbon effect of the predominant border design.
